The Comal River has become one of the most sought-after destinations in New Braunfels, and its popularity only continues to rise. It’s no wonder you’re considering a trip there, searching for the best places to stay on the Comal River.

Flowing directly through the city center of New Braunfels, the Comal River offers a refreshing escape from the sweltering Texas summer. Fed by springs, its waters maintain a cool and invigorating temperature of 69-75 degrees during the summer months. A typical float down the river lasts approximately 2-3 hours, depending on the current and the level of activity.

If this is your first time embarking on a float down the Comal, or even the nearby Guadalupe River, I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with the essential information. Feel free to explore the links below for details on regulations, packing tips, accommodations, and recommended activities in and around New Braunfels.

For now, let’s focus on what you’re here for: finding the best places to stay along the Comal River. With over two decades of experience floating the rivers of New Braunfels, I’ve discovered some fantastic spots that I’m excited to share with you.

Campsites On The River

Unlike the Guadalupe, where you’re spoiled for choice with over 10 campsites, the Comal River has just one spot that steals the show—Landa Falls. But let me tell you, it’s an absolute blast.

At Landa Falls, you get that authentic campsite vibe you crave. They’ve got traditional tent sites and RV hookups, with the option of riverside or hillside spots. And let me add, the prices for a night’s stay in the summer won’t break the bank, averaging around $30-$40 for tent sites and $40-$50 for RV hookups.

But that’s not all—Landa Falls isn’t just a campsite. They also serve as a river outfitter for the Comal, offering the longest float trip around. More often than not, when I’m floating the Comal, I’m either camping here or using them as my starting point. Trust me, they’re simply the best.

Plus, when you stay at Landa Falls campsite, you’re right across from their river tube rental and put-in spot. So, it’s just a hop, skip, and a jump to get on the river. And with a tube rental, you get shuttle access, meaning you can even float the river twice if you start early enough!

Being the only true campsite on the Comal, it’s a no-brainer that Landa Falls is one of the top places to stay on the Comal River. But beyond that, it’s genuinely a fantastic spot to set up camp while you’re exploring the Comal. Plus, it’s super close to all the downtown fun!

Condos/Cabins on the River

During the summer months, when tourism peaks, renting condos becomes a major aspect of the New Braunfels scene. With plenty of condos and riverside homes to choose from, I’ve had the chance to stay at a few and discover some amazing spots! You can easily find these accommodations on platforms like Airbnb or VRBO.

The main decision you’ll need to make is where along the river you’d like to stay—either at the beginning or the end. The good news is, this choice doesn’t have a huge impact, especially if you plan to use Landa Falls as your starting point. They provide free parking and shuttle pick-up, making it convenient no matter where you decide to stay along the river.
